Willow Rock Center

Located on the Alameda County Hospital campus, the Willow Rock Center provides outpatient, residential and sub-acute care for emotionally disturbed adolescents. The design creates a secured intimate residential campus with four residential cottages, an activity building with administrative functions with a large multi-purpose/dining room, a vibrant red school building, and a skilled nursing facility. The Design Partnership planned the Willow Rock Center as a village with the buildings encircling a communal courtyard used for recreation, performances, and as an outdoor classroom. Attention was paid to maintain safety and security in a non-institutional manner, and without compromising the privacy and dignity of the children.
