UCSF Medical Center Connie Frank Transplant Center

The Connie Frank Transplant Center at the UCSF Parnassus campus provides comprehensive services for kidney transplants in a centralized location. Located on the seventh floor of a 1960’s building at UCSF Parnassus Camp, our design provides comprehensive services for kidney transplants in a centralized location while creating a warm and inviting arrival that is framed with a transparent glass portal and a curved touching wall constructed with white Venetian plaster. The entry opens to an extraordinary and inspiring lobby for patients and staff that offer expansive views of the San Francisco Bay, landmark Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco’s historic urban center that are framed by the graceful arches of the existing concrete beams and concrete columns that are sandblasted to enhance their architectural significance.

The design concept integrates the exterior’s breathtaking views as part of the spacious waiting room’s interior environment that offers patients a calming and healing experience while waiting for medical treatment. The use of natural materials and ample natural light create a memorable, comfortable and welcoming interior for both patients and donors.
