Warren E. Thornton Youth Center
The Design Partnership served as the associate architect on the design of a major addition to the Warren E. Thornton Youth Center. A self-contained residential commitment facility for delinquent youth who do not require the security of a Youth Authority institution, the design expanded the capacity of the existing facility from 50 to 110 children and enabled the accommodation of girls in the program. The project included two new 30-bed housing units, each with dayrooms, medical screening rooms, counseling rooms, classrooms, and support areas. The project was awarded the AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice Acknowledgment for Design Excellence.
